Why You’ll Love Downtown Batavia

Downtown Batavia offers the perfect mix of urban character and natural scenery. Historic brick buildings, charming storefronts, textured alleyways, the Fox River, and the scenic Batavia Riverwalk provide plenty of variety without needing to drive between locations.

This is an especially strong choice for clients who want an urban session that still feels relaxed and natural. We can create polished portraits near the downtown buildings, then walk toward the river for softer greenery, water views, bridges, and golden evening light. The Riverwalk runs beside the Fox River and Depot Pond and includes walking paths, historic features, and several scenic riverfront areas.

  • Wear comfortable shoes because we will walk between several different backgrounds.
  • Seniors may want to bring one dressier outfit and one casual outfit to take advantage of both the polished downtown setting and the relaxed riverfront.
  • Neutral colors, denim, earth tones, and deeper jewel tones all photograph well against the brick buildings.
  • Avoid very small patterns or overly busy outfits that may compete with the downtown backgrounds.

Things to Know

Downtown Batavia is a walkable location, but the session may include several blocks of walking as we move between the storefronts, River Street, the Riverwalk, bridges, and riverfront areas.

Because this is an active downtown, we may occasionally need to pause for pedestrians, cyclists, restaurant guests, events, or traffic. Batavia also holds markets, festivals, concerts, and other community events downtown, so the exact session route may change depending on what is happening that evening.

Parking is available in the downtown area, but clients should allow a little extra arrival time, particularly during weekends and community events.

For families with very young children, bringing a stroller or wagon can make the walking portion easier. However, this location is best for children who are comfortable staying close to adults near streets, water, and active pedestrian paths.
