If you’re looking for a location that feels peaceful, natural, and a little different from the typical wooded forest preserve, Cuba Marsh is one of my favorite hidden gems. The preserve features wide-open marsh views, native prairie grasses, winding gravel trails, and beautiful pockets of mature trees that photograph beautifully throughout the year.
Golden hour is especially stunning here as the sun reflects across the wetlands, creating warm, glowing light that’s perfect for natural, timeless portraits. The variety of scenery also means we can create an entire gallery without feeling like we’re shooting in the same spot.

Cuba Marsh is beautiful nearly year-round, but my favorite seasons include:
Summer
Fall
There is a moderate amount of walking between photo locations. Most trails are wide gravel paths with a few boardwalk sections, so comfortable shoes are recommended.
A stroller or wagon is helpful for young children. There are no dramatic hills, making it easier to navigate than some preserves.
Sunset provides the most flattering light, especially over the marsh. Mosquitoes can be present during warmer months, so bug spray is a good idea.
