BOOKING YOUR SESSION:

Newborn sessions are best if booked during your 5th or 6th month of pregnancy (or earlier) to ensure I’m available when your little bundle of joy arrives.

All other sessions are typically booked 1-2 months in advance.

WHEN TO PHOTOGRAPH:

The best time to photograph your newborn is before 2 weeks of age while they are still in that sleepy and curly stage. If you’re thinking about a maternity shoot, I recommend having it done around 35 weeks.

THE PRE-SESSION CONSULTATION
I pride myself on exceptional customer service and a commitment to each family’s relationship and the creation of unique art for their home. During your complimentary online or phone consultation, I will get to know you. We’ll discuss your goals and personal style, so that I can create a session for you that complements YOU. Great portraits begin with a great relationship. Tell me about your home and your vision, and I’ll add in my creativity to make it happen.

PROPS:

I supply all of the props, backdrops, blankets, hats & headbands, but I welcome any props you may have.

If you see something you like in any of my galleries, be sure to mention it before your session. Be sure to let me know your nursery colors too.

EQUIPMENT:

I take pride in my work and only shoot with top of the line equipment.   I currently shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III, 50 1.2L, 24-70 2.8L, 100 2.8L Macro, 16-35 2.8L, Sigma Art 35mm

TURNAROUND TIME:

I am now offering SAME DAY ordering appointments! That means we will have our session that will run 2-3 hrs. Later that day, I will then email you a proof gallery. Print/Digital collections, professional prints, gorgeous canvases, photo boxes, albums, custom birth announcements, holiday cards and other products will be available for purchase at that time.

TIPS FOR THE DAY OF YOUR SESSION:

  • Avoid any spicy foods the night before. AVOID ANY COFFEE OR TEA
  • Please feed baby 30 minutes before the session. If you breast feed and can, have a bottle pumped for quick feeding if the baby wakes up.  You can also bring small formula bottles. Sometimes they do the trick to keeping baby sleepy! {Don’t worry…there will also be time to nurse.}
  • Bring a pacifier {if not opposed}. They can be a lifesaver during these sessions to comfort & keep baby nice and sleepy.
  • Loosen baby’s diaper about 30 minutes before the session. This allows time for the diaper’s imprint marks to disappear.
  • Dress baby in something easy to take off without disturbing them. I suggest pjs that zip or snap up. I need to be able to undress baby easily without loosing the deep slumber.
  • Decide if you’d like pictures taken with your baby. If so, just wear something black and form fitting. Leggings are every mom’s best friend! Dad can wear a well fitting black tee. You can also go the other route and wear a white or cream tank {wife beater} and Dad can wear a well fitting white or cream tee. Same goes for siblings. Just keep it neutral!
  • Expect to work in mini sessions. Diaper changes, feedings and cry periods are inevitable & all come with the territory.
  • A mother’s smell is so recognizable {and sometimes distracting} to a baby. It may be necessary for the mom to leave the room for portions of the session. This is not meant to hurt your feelings, but only to allow me to get the baby thinking sweet, sleepy dreams, instead of hungry “where’s my milk?” dreams. Be patient. If baby gets fussy or alert, don’t stress! A baby can sense your anxiety and we want to keep the environment as mellow as possible. We will try and get baby comfortable again, but if that just doesn’t seem possible, we’ll take a break or we’ll work with what they’re giving us. Sometimes the best pictures are ones when the baby isn’t doing what we want.
  • Be assured that if there is ever a point where you’re uncomfortable with the poses, simply let me know. I only want to do poses and shots that you are comfortable with.
  • Finally…sit back and relax! Feel free to catch up on emails, memos or even nap a bit. I’m basically your babysitter for a few hours. Enjoy!
